Heat: Heat is one of the earliest known forms of energy. Heat is related to temperature. The temperature gives us the feeling how hot or cold the object is. However, if heat is a cause, temperature is an effect.

If heat is given to the object its temperature increases except during phase/state change (solid to liquid or liquid to gas).

We use different units of temperature namely Celsius, Fahrenheit or kelvin. SI unit of temp is Kelvin. The following conversion formula is useful for converting temp from one unit to another.

(C-0)/(100-0) =(F-32)/(212-32) =(K-273) /(373-273) Which in simple form is C/5 =F-32/9 or K=273 +C.

Regarding temperature it's worth noting that

-40 C=-40 F(only temp which is equal on both scales)
Temp in Kelvin can't be negative.
Lowest temp= 0 K or -273 C but there is no limit to higher temp.
Temp difference of 1 C=temp difference of 1 k.
Temperature is defined by the basic zeroth law of thermodynamics which states that If A and B are in thermal equilibrium,B and C are in thermal equilibrium then A and C will be also in thermal equilibrium.

Measurement of temperature is called thermometry. For Measurement of temperature, we select a property of material (such as length of mercury column or resistance of a metal) which varies with temperature. This property is called thermometric property.

Actually temperature and its measurement is indirect. We measure change in thermometric property and then relate it to temperature by method of calibration. We use different thermometers for different temperature range.
