DESCRIPTION
Play this online game named FlipPix.
FlipPix is a simple way to explore Flickr. Every time you flip the phone from one orientation to the other sixteen new pictures from a random Flickr Photo group or a search will be retrieved and shown in the main grid array.Note: Only images with the public flag set will be displayed. This app requires a data connection. If connecting over a cellular data network it can rapidly cause you to reach or exceed a data limit.
When in standard mode, FlipPix will choose a random group from the defined groups and display sixteen random images. The image thumbnails will be squeezed into either a portrait or landscape view depending on the current phone orientation. To view a image in correct perspective click on it to bring up a single image view.
Every time you flip the phone a new random group and a set of sixteen images will be shown. The current group name and page number the images are retrieved from is displayed on the left side of the toolbar.
If you would like to stay with a particular group, you can set the lock mode on. This will keep the same group every time you flip, but still retrieve sixteen random images from the group. When you are finished with exploring the group, close lock mode and on the next flip a new group will be chosen.
Initially there are twelve standard Flickr Groups defined: "Commons", "Public Domain", "World Photography", Black and White", "Nasa", "Smithsonian Air and Space", "HDR", "Earth Nature", "Gov Public Domain", Mount Ranier", "iPhone", "Japan" plus the "Interestingness".
These are just a start. You can add to these standard groups by either initiation a search, or by directly editing the groups in the edit group screen. Every successful search will automatically enter lock mode, so flipping the phone will continue to show images from the search. The search will also be automatically entered as a group. To end the search, choose the close icon on the toolbar.
Note, that every time you flip the borders of the picture frames will turn red. This signals that FlipPix is retrieving the images to display on the next flip in the background. If you flip the phone while the background is red, the screen will remain in the previous orientation until the images are retrieved. Then the screen will flip and display the new group and sixteen images.
You can click on any of the displayed images to open a larger single image view. You may flip the phone in this mode to display a landscape or portrait orientation of the image without affecting the group of images display.
In single image view you also have the option of turning on an information overlay that will display all of the available information for the image. This includes: Title, Description, Tags, Dates, License, Location, Group, ID, Farm, Server, and Secret.
You also have the option of sharing the image to all of the services on your phone that support sharing.
Selecting either the highlighted 'X' to the right of the image or just pressing the back key will return you to the group view.
You may add Flickr image groups in the Edit Groups screen. Groups added here may be either search groups or specific Flickr groups. Flickr Groups must contain a specific Flickr group ID, If you do not know this ID you must define it as a search group. A search group has no Flickr group ID. Groups with a group ID will show a lock icon on the far right of the items line.
On each group line item you can choose to edit the entry by selecting the edit entry icon to the left of the lock/search group icon. You can also choose to delete any of the groups by selecting it with the check box on the far left of the line item. Multiple groups can be selected for deletion. Once selection is complete pressing the delete icon on the toolbar will delete all selected groups. No warning dialog will be shown, so be careful when using this option.
If you do delete any of the standard groups, you can restore them by selecting the restore icon on the toolbar at any time.
