DESCRIPTION

Use UptoPlay to play online the game Shiritori - Japanese Word Chain Game.

Shiritori is a Japanese word chaining game where players take turns saying words that start with the previous word's last kana. For example, if the previous word is "shi-ri-to-ri", then the next word must start with "ri", such as "ri-su". After that, the next word must start with "su".

In this app, play against CPUs of varying difficulty levels. As you and the computer enter words, find out their meanings and kanji!

This app requires you to have a Japanese keyboard to input words

As this app checks your words against its personal dictionary, you may find that certain words do not work although they are real. Sorry about that in advance, but I hope to add a feature in the future that lets you bypass the limited dictionary.

Enjoy with UptoPlay the online game Shiritori - Japanese Word Chain Game.

Comments:

The in-game dictionary is very limited even at the highest difficulty (N1) setting, and excludes many very common words (like kuma (bear), unagi, sukiru (skill)). Also the CPU reuses words the player has used, but the player cannot reuse words used by the CPU.

In one week of learning Japanese I learned more vocabulary than this app has. The CPU can repeat words while you can't I wouldn't really care except it repeats the same words very often because it has like 10 words in it's vocabulary And I can't write words that end with n it says so so I'm not sure if it's a bug but many words end with n

The dictionary is small and doesn't recognize many common words, I even had to confirm I was writing it correctly using Jisho. The bot also can reuse words but you can't. You can easily beat the bot by knowing enough words that end with る.

Extremely limited dictionary. The game gets quite frustrating when simple, common words like いしや, さよなら and るいく/るいじ aren't accepted due to not being in the game's dictionary. I'm not even N5 and I stumped the game's dictionary so often, I checked myself against another common JP dictionary to make sure I wasn't mistaken. Mind you, I wasn't repeating words, they weren't in the game's dictionary. There's also no kanji input, so you can't use homonyms. Good concept, but it needs work.

This game doesn't have a big vocab. I tried ゴリラ, ゴルフ, プードル, ピザ, プレッシャー, and all didn't work. I thought it was because I kept on using Katakana, so I tried words like 'ごみ箱

but they still didn't seem to work. This app misses a lot of common words in Japan."
