Sunderkand is one of the most beautiful Chapter of the 7 Chapters from RamCharitraManas or Ramayan,That is why it is called Sunderkand i.e Sundara(Beautiful) Kanda(Work).

The original Sundara Kanda is in Sanskrit and was composed by Valmiki, who was the first to scripturally record the Ramayana. Sundara Kanda is the only chapter of the Ramayana in which the hero is not Rama, but rather Hanuman. Hanuman's selflessness, strength, and devotion to Rama are emphasized in the text. Hanuman was fondly called Sundar by his mother Anjani and Sage Valmiki Ji chose this name over others as this kand deals mainly with Hanuman's journey to Lanka.

The SunderKand which is a chapter in the 'Ram-Charit-Maanas', penned by Goswami Tulsidas is considered to be as auspicious to read, as it is to recite the 'Hanuman Chaalisa'. In the Sunder-kand, Hanumanji is reminded by Jambavan about the fact that Hanumanji has great powers that the latter has no memory of. In this case Hanumanji is made to remember about the fact that he is capable of flying. Jambavan exhorted Hanuman to undertake the crossing of the Mighty Ocean. Hanumanji's flight was necessary to search for Seeta who had been abducted by Raavan. Seeta is symbolic of Bhakti or devotion. To reach her one has to don the wings of prayer and love. Hanumanji is now all ready to take the leap. Let us take the flight with him in search of Love incarnate.
Sunderkand includes Beautiful Bhagavan Ram , Beautiful Sita Mata ,Beautiful Hanumanji.

Why it is named "Sunderkand" ?

The Trikutachal mountains at Srilanka have three ranges.
\t
Neel range on which the country people stay.
\t
Suvel range which is the vast plateau.
\t
Sundar range where Ashok Vatika is located and the total events of sunderkand took place on this range, hence the sunderkand.

Further more shri Tulsidasji has said

"Sundere sundero ram sundere sunderi katha
Sundere sunderi sita sundere Kim na sunderem"

Meaning of this is, in sunderkand everything is sunder that is beautiful. Rama is beautiful; Sita is beautiful the story is beautiful. It is an upasana or a prayer of beautiful people hence the prayer has to generate a power for the devotee or sadhak or the reciter. It contains a lovely hugging of lord Rama and his devotee Shree Hanumanji showering the word of appreciation and indebt ness for all good Hanumanji did to Rama while rescuing Sita. A devotee to whom Rama could not reciprocate. He did as a sevak. This power percolates to the devotee who prays to lord Hanumanji via sunderkand containing the praise of lord Shree Hanumanji.
