The notifEye Companion app enables unread notifications reminders. ( * more new features coming soon )

Choose the notification reminder ringtone.
Choose how often you would like to be reminded of unread notifications.

The app only runs if you have any unread notifications, and only wakes up your device to play the reminder then the device is put back to sleep. Tests have shown no significant battery usage.

Does NOT ask for External Storage Access.
Does NOT ask for Network Access.
Does NOT ask for Internet Access.
Does NOT ask for Account Details or Contacts Information.

Since Android Lollipop API 21 Android introduced "Battery Optimisation" this means that apps are limited in how they can use background services. As Android developed, more and more restrictions were place on apps, this is a good idea and has drastically improved battery life on your device.

To use background processing, apps now require extra permissions, ( see below for full list ) and are required to display a notification on the status bar while the service is running. These permissions allow notifEye Companion to run code at a fixed interval of your choice, to play a reminder ringtone even if your device is in standby or sleep mode. We are using the latest Android recommend code ( WorkManager API ) to deliver this service which is very battery friendly.

The main notifEye app does not ask for these permissions because we decided that it was better to give users the choice as to whether they wanted to allow these permissions or not.

PERMISSIONS REQUIRED

ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE - View network connections - Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected to. This does not mean that the app can use the network or connection. This permission is used by the WorkManager API in case the code needs to only run if there is a network connection available. The notifEye Companion app does not use this feature but it is required by the WorkManager API.

RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED - Run at startup - Allows the app to start itself as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allows the app to slow down the device by constantly running. This permission is used by the WorkManager API. The notifEye Companion app does not use this feature but it is required by the WorkManager API. notifEye Companion does not start automatically on startup, the reminder service is only active if you have any unread notifications, once you read your notifications the service is stopped.

WAKE_LOCK - Prevent device from sleeping - Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep. This permission is used by the WorkManager API. notifEye Companion does use this feature. In order for the app to play a reminder ringtone it must be able to wake the device up at the desired interval, once the ringtone has finished playing the device is restored to its sleep state. Test have showed no significant battery usage while using the reminder service.

FOREGROUND_SERVICE - Allows a regular application to use a foreground service - notifEye Companion uses this permission to comply with the rules imposed by Android on using background services.

notifEye Companion is written entirely in pure Android Java, we do not use any third party library's or undocumented API's or Java Reflection. Therefore you can be 100% confident that your valuable data and privacy remain on your device at all times.
